Leaving the Red Zone As I left the zone every day or even for lunch to escape for a few minutes I went though barricades where heavily armed soldiers smiled at me and where men looking like astronauts completely covered in blue hazmat suits hosed off vehicles returning to the real world. I didn't have a suit. What went out with my clothing and shoes beside the smell of death? What went inside my body from that hell hole? What of the soldiers, the rescue, police, and fire personnel who chose not to wear masks. How could you communicate or yell, "Look out." with a voice muffled by a mask?
